Dr. Michael Irr, DPT, CSCS
Head of High Performance
Dr. Michael Irr joined Westminster Athletics in May 2026 as Head of High Performance, bringing nearly two decades of experience working with elite athletes at the professional level. Across his NBA career, he served in leadership roles with the Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors, Charlotte Hornets, and Chicago Bulls, specializing in athlete performance, strength and conditioning, rehabilitation, recovery, and sports science.
Before coming to Westminster, Dr. Irr served as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors, helping develop individualized performance plans for some of the top athletes in professional basketball. His expertise includes biomechanical analysis, velocity-based training, force plate assessment, load monitoring, recovery strategies, and injury rehabilitation. In 2023, he founded ALPHA Athletic Development, where he continues to work as a strength coach and physical therapist.
At Westminster, Dr. Irr oversees the department’s high performance initiatives, supporting student-athletes through strength and conditioning, movement assessment, injury prevention, and long-term athletic development. His approach emphasizes building resilient, well-rounded athletes while fostering healthy habits and sustainable performance.
