Coordinator of Youth Programs & Equipment Operations | Girls Basketball Head of Program

Alex Richey joined Westminster in August 2024 as Coordinator of Youth Programs and Equipment Operations and Head of Program for Girls Basketball. A Georgia native, Alex grew up in Alpharetta and is a graduate of Centennial High School, where he was later inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Alex went on to play four years of men’s basketball at Oglethorpe University, earning membership in the school’s 1,000 Points Club and recording over 200 career assists. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, he began his professional career at his alma mater, serving as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach.

In 2014, Alex was named Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Oglethorpe, where he went on to become the winningest coach in the history of Oglethorpe University women’s athletics. During his 10-year tenure, he led the Stormy Petrels to national prominence, earning recognition as a National Coach of the Year finalist (2020), South Region Coach of the Year (2020), and two-time Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Coach of the Year (2018, 2020).

At Westminster, Alex oversees all Athletics Youth Programs as well as the department’s apparel and equipment partnership with BSN/Nike. He also serves as faculty advisor for the Upper School Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), helping student-athletes strengthen their leadership skills on campus.
